Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's 2009 New York Times bestseller Half The Sky follows the stories of extraordinary women from around the world as they struggle to overcome oppression. Now, Kristof and WuDunn along with CARE, an international nonprofit that works to improve the lives of impoverished women, have teamed up for a special event that will take place at the Skirball Center on February 11 and be broadcast to movie theaters across the country on March 4, the week of International Women's Day.
Half the Sky LIVE features musical performances by India.Arie, Diane Birch and Angelique Kidjo, a screening of Marisa Tomei and Lisa Leone's new short film Woineshet and, a discussion with insightful commentary from Nicholas Kristof, and appearances by Sarah, Dutchess of York, 20/20's Andrea Mitchell, actress Maria Bello, U.S. Ambassador for Women's Issues Melanne Verveer, U.N. Special Advisor on Women Rachel Mayanja, and CARE CEO Helene Gayle.
