Skirball Center for the Performing Arts - New York University

This year, National Dance Institute will bring together 200 talented dancers from New York City public schools to explore Harlem’s epic legacy, celebrating the sights, sounds, and rhythms of a neighborhood that has been a thriving center of cultural achievement and political action for over a century. Through dance and live music, NDI will bring to life the work of Jacob Lawrence, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, and Hector LaVoe. We will stomp at the Savoy, salute the Harlem Hellfighters, cheer for Joe Louis, and shuffle along at the Hoofer’s Club. Billie Holiday will break our hearts and James Baldwin will inspire us to transcend and transform our circumstances. Together we will discover the journey of those who came before us, their influence on our lives today, the regenerative power of community and the hope for equality that carries us into the future.

NDI will provide sign language interpretation for the 2 PM performance on Sunday, June 18

FOR JUNE 19 BENEFIT TICKETS, CONTACT NDI AT (212) 226-0083.
