Utilizing a contemporary military perspective in a modern setting, this classic work reflects the timelessness of a tale of racism, love, betrayal and the destructive power of jealousy.

“a sickeningly brilliant performance from Adrian Lester in a gripping red-letter revival” THE DAILY MAIL (UK)

Othello, newly married to the lovely Desdemona – who is half his age – is appointed leader of a major military operation. High-ranking soldier Iago, passed over for promotion by Othello in favor of the young Cassio, seeks his revenge by manipulating Othello into believing Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. Iago then watches as the awful events he sets in motion take on a life of their own, provoking pain and suffering that not even he had imagined.

Olivier Award-winning actor Adrian Lester (Henry V at the National Theatre, BBC’s Hustle) takes the title role as the jealous General. Opposite him as the duplicitous Iago is fellow Olivier Award-winner Rory Kinnear (The Last of the Haussmans, James Bond: Skyfall), who is reunited with director Nicholas Hytner (Timon of Athens, One Man, Two Guvnors) following their acclaimed collaboration on the National Theatre’s recent production of Hamlet.
