Terry Riley, pioneer of minimalism and guru to legions of musicians from classical to rock, takes the stage with his son, guitarist Gyan Riley, for an evening of East meets West that—in combination with The Joshua Light Show's swirling lights—recalls the composer's earliest experiments in art. The duo will perform both new and classic material from Terry Riley's vast compositional output with an "intuitive synchronicity" only father and son can share. For this presentation with The Joshua Light Show, the Rileys perform a plugged-in set for keyboards and guitars, material from which surfaced recently at Moogfest in North Carolina, but has yet to to be heard in New York.

“Terry Riley is reluctantly the king of everything... godfather of music... unwitting progenitor of New Age music... but Riley repeatedly slips out from under the mantles bestowed on him and doggedly seeks new musical frontiers.” The San Francisco Bay Guardian

The Joshua Light Show, founded by multimedia artist Joshua White, are perhaps the most legendary visualists of live music. As resident artists at Bill Graham’s Fillmore East during the late 1960’s, and in performances at Woodstock, Newport Jazz Festival, Tanglewood, Carnegie Hall, and the classic film, Midnight Cowboy, White and his cohorts created live, colorful, psychedelic projections behind the great bands of that era including The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and The Who.

Regenerated in part by exhibitions at the Tate Liverpool, Centre Pompidou, MOCA, the Hirshhorn Museum, and the Whitney, the new Joshua Light Show has performed across the United States and Europe in concert with a new generation of art rock and experimental music luminaries, in addition to creating its own fulldome son-et-lumière for the Hayden Planetarium at New York’s American Museum of Natural History.
