NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE
“Nature Theater of Oklahoma is one of the best ensemble theater companies in the world.” – Bomb Magazine
They’re back! Just in time for the alt-holidays, Nature Theater of Oklahoma returns to NYC with No President — a wild, tightly choreographed political grotesque, set to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.
ABOUT THE WORK
In a world where danger lurks around every corner, a theater performance becomes the ultimate target. Hired to guard the stage is a quirky security team staffed with former actors. Their mission: to protect a precious curtain and the secrets behind it. But chaos ensues when a rival security company, comprised of swift, ex-ballet dancers, infiltrates — threatening to steal the gig with a deadly mix of speed and style.
Hold on as things spiral out of control in this over-the-top, darkly comic spectacle that blurs the line between show business and security.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Nature Theater of Oklahoma is a New York based, award-winning art and performance group, under the direction of Pavol Liška and Kelly Copper. With each new project, they attempt to set an impossible challenge for themselves, the audience, and their collaborators – working from inside the codes and confines of established genres and exploding them. No two projects are formally the same, but the work is always full of humor, earnestness and rigor. Using readymade material, found space, gifted properties, cosmic accident, extreme formal manipulation and plain hard work, Nature Theater of Oklahoma makes art to affect a shift in the perception of everyday reality that extends beyond the site of performance and into the world in which we live.
