Miet Warlop: One Song

Co-Presented with L’Alliance New York as a part of Crossing The Line Festival

One Song — the newest creation from Belgian multi-disciplinary artist Miet Warlop — is an exhilarating and joyful fusion of a live competition and a concert, where a single song has the power to define a society.

In this highly anticipated U.S. premiere, twelve performers take the stage in a mesmerizing ritual that explores themes of hope, life, death, and resurrection. Throughout the performance, an audience votes after each act, a cheerleader offers unwavering support, and a sportscaster provides live commentary.

At the invitation of the Belgian city theatre NTGent and its director Milo Rau, Miet Warlop was asked: What is your history as a “theatre maker”?  One Song is her response. the long-running series Histoire(s) du Théâtre, she is the fourth director to accept the challenge of a creation in which present, past and future meet each other in an inspiring way – after Milo Rau, Faustin Linyekula and Angélica Liddell. ONE SONG – Histoire(s) du Théâtre IV is set in the unique universe of Warlop.

Praised by The New York Times as one of the “Top European Productions of 2022” during its run at the Avignon Festival, One Song makes its U.S. premiere at NYU Skirball.
