National Dance Institute’s (NDI) 2025 Event of the Year, “Music in the Air: The Evolution of Rock,” brings together over 175 talented children from New York City schools to perform original choreography accompanied by live music, from June 14th through June 18th.

With its electrifying instruments and raw vocals, Rock music captures the vast, kinetic expressions of both the individual and society. Music can be an intimate companion in moments of heartbreaking loss, a source of inspiration and confidence in challenging times, or a communal experience of pure joy! Our young dancers trace the origins of early Rock ‘n’ Roll through the genre’s endless iterations and rebirths, celebrating the richness and dynamism of a musical genre that has defined American music for the greater part of a century.

Directed by Elizabeth Sellner, “Music in the Air: The Evolution of Rock” will feature a new work by NDI’s Helen Stambler Neuberger Artist-in-Residence Troy Anthony, along with original works created by NDI’s brilliant team of choreographers, musicians, and designers.

ASL Interpretation is being provided at all performances. To reserve ASL seating, please enter the access code 4ASL before selecting seats.
